Using Undercover Actors to Explore the Power of Transformational Leadership for Workplace Wellbeing
Wanting to provide a stand-out event in line with previous innovative learning sessions, Shared Services Forum UK approached RightTrack Learning with two themes on their wish-list: transformational leadership and workplace wellbeing. Often looked at in silo, the brief was to design an unforgettable session which, cleverly using undercover professional actors, brought these two topics together to elevate participants understanding of leadership and its impact on employee wellbeing.

Shared Services Forum UK is a 20-year-strong national membership community for the Shared Services Sector. The organisation provides members with opportunities to learn and develop with the support of one another, with a core feature of the membership being regular networking events where peers share challenges, successes, experiences and knowledge.
RightTrack Learning was appointed to create a bespoke, interactive learning event where senior-decision makers from a range of organisations including ITV, Guinness, KP Snacks and Specsavers, could explore and gain practical advice on how to leverage leadership style to promote workplace wellbeing and increase organisational success.
The Programme
The workshop began with undercover actors in the audience participating in an uncomfortable but familiar conversation. Before it was revealed that they were in-fact undercover, members of the audience interrupted the scenario sharing their thoughts and asking questions.
Once their true role was revealed attendees had the opportunity to ‘hot-seat’ the actors, asking questions and reflecting on what they’d just seen unravel. This immersive element, driven by custom-written scripts, sparked plenty of meaningful discussion which was facilitated by RightTrack’s lead learning & development specialist, Jess Sandham, and supported by some formal learning content to provide context and tools for change:
- Introduction to Transformational Leadership
- The Secrets of Thriving Workplaces
- The Impact of Transformational Leadership on Wellbeing
- Strategies for Transforming Leadership to Promote Wellbeing
- Planning for Empowerment Through Action
- Q&A
In addition to the workshop, a downloadable toolkit was created for the leaders to take back to their prospective organisations. The resource included a sharable Psychological Safety Assessment and Inclusive Culture Action Plan for the leaders’ to use with their own teams, to start open conversations and identify steps towards a more inclusive workplace.
