Inclusive Language Guide

We encourage each other to embrace differences and support one another to create inclusive environments. The language we use when we speak to each other is critical to creating that inclusive environment.

Language is always evolving and can vary across cultures. The guidelines in this document are intended to improve communication, rather than give definitive rules on language.

What is it?
The Inclusive Language Guide is a set of guidance and examples on how to improve communication.

How does it work?
The guide is broken down into individual attributes which consist of examples and tips. Please note the terms used in this guide reflect the diverse identities and lived experiences of people in the UK. In other countries, there may be alternative preferred terms and other language that may be offensive, which may not be covered in this guide.

What next?
