Building Exceptional Teams Through Diversity & Inclusion
There is a bucket-load of evidence to show that organisations who nurture inclusive cultures – where all their people feel a sense of belonging – are head and shoulders above their competitors in terms of creativity, productivity and profitability. But, as with so many worthwhile journeys in life, there are no shortcuts to reaching this destination.
Building Exceptional Teams Through Diversity & Inclusion is a five x half-day, modular programme, which has been carefully designed to take your people on this journey.
Whilst we do start with the foundations, including definitions and legal considerations, this course is designed to develop emotional intelligence, grow psychological safety, and impart the knowledge, skills, and confidence for individuals to proactively champion inclusion. By building on the learning overtime, with collaborative workplace-relevant activities between modules to encourage implementation of new skills and ideas, this is a programme that will drive tangible change.
Course Content
Module 1: Equality, Diversity & Inclusion for Everyone
This interactive, hands-on workshop explores and celebrates equality, diversity, and inclusion, and reminds us that this unequivocally impacts us all. While we do look at the legal definitions associated with the topic, the aim of this course is to create a series of lightbulb moments and highlight the contribution each of us makes to our environment.
It explores what can happen when banter goes a step too far, which can be brought to life using drama, and identifies practical ways each of us can challenge non-inclusion. Most importantly, individuals will have found their personal motivation and a set of specific actions they can implement to be an active player in shaping the environment around them.
Module 2: Shifting from Unconscious Bias to Conscious Inclusion
There are numerous studies reporting the impact of unconscious bias on our day-to-day interactions. But many studies show that raising awareness of unconscious bias is not enough to drive meaningful change.
By moving from simple awareness of unconscious bias to tangible action, this course is designed to equip people with the practical knowledge and confidence to guard against unconscious bias, recognise how it may show up in their day to day, and commit to meaningful action to consciously include.
Module 3: Courageous Conversations About Identity
Our identities are complex and multifaceted. It’s what makes us so interesting and unique as individuals. Creating safe spaces for conversations about our identity’s and our differences helps to build common understanding and greater emotional intelligence.
By exploring our responsibilities and the dynamics in these complex conversations, this course empowers people to be curious, to develop empathic communication skills, and to start having great conversations that help to unlock the value of diversity.
Module 4: Connecting Across Cultural Difference
Our world today is characterised by businesses and communities that operate across international boundaries. People belonging to very different cultural backgrounds are increasingly brought together in a common purpose. Sometimes, where there are cultural differences, tension can arise.
This course explores the importance of self-reflection and looks at ways we can grow our cultural and global knowledge. We consider some practical ways we can make meaningful connections across common barriers and leave participants with tangible actions to develop their own cultural awareness.
Module 5: Allyship & Psychological Safety
This module uncovers what we mean by phrases like allyship, bystander effect, privilege, and psychological safety but most importantly, how to take that understanding and turn it into positive action.
This is a hands-on, whistle-stop tour of a big subject that is relevant to us all and an imperative building block to creating exceptional teams.
Whilst the five modules outlined here are our recommendation, we recognise that every organisation will have differing needs so bear in mind this programme can be customised, mixed, or matched to align exactly with your people development objectives.

What About Actors?
Through clever script writing, goose-bump inducing delivery and professional facilitation we can bring so much to life. We stimulate emotion, penetrate the long-term memory and create lasting change.
When we use live drama, we are able to have the actors play out the scenario and then be hot seated for the audience to ask them questions whilst they remain in character. Hot seating works so well because actors work with a pre-rehearsed backstory, so they are able to respond in character. They progressively reveal unexpected elements of their story that will not have previously been told. It can bust assumptions that the audience might have made based on the scenario (situation) but not fully understanding the impact at first sight.
Using actors in this programme enables us to bring to:
- Bring both the subtle, and not so subtle, inappropriate behaviours to life, literally
- Provide attendees with an opportunity to explore the fine line between what is and isn’t acceptable
- Give attendees a chance to challenge the actors whilst they are still in character
- Demonstrate that things aren’t always what they seem at first glance
- Provide delegates with an opportunity to test out alternative ways of approaching what can often be sensitive situations
- Create a goosebump-inducing learning experience that sticks in the long-term memory
