What's in a Name Webinar

About this webinar

Join us for the second webinar in our ‘We Believe in Brave’ series; What’s in a Name?

Everyone’s name tells a story. But how much care do you take to learn a name, pronounce it right and connect with others over the simple exchange of a word?

Following the announcement earlier this year, that Thandiwe Newton was re-embracing the original spelling of her name after the press simplified it to Thandie, thousands of people shared how mispronunciations and unauthorised abbreviations make them feel undervalued and disrespected. One in three of the 875 people we surveyed on Twitter said they have changed their name to make it easier for others.

Objectives

In a bid to help positive change, join us to explore the role our names play in:

  • Positively connecting with others
  • Building psychological safety
  • Practicing anti-racism
  • Being an ally
  • As well as how to remove the fear factor of ‘getting it wrong’

I’ve certainly learned things that I’m going to take with me and give me a new way of thinking in my day-to-day job.”
